When I first bought a NMEA2000 engine monitoring unit and Garmin chart plotter for my sailboat I became interested. I found that adding more electronics was expensive and hard to find, what I wanted as far features go. So I joined NMEA.ORG and bought the NMEA2000 standards. Being that it was based on CAN bus I was able to design my first controller to participate on the bus. From there I designed and programmed the firmware for over a dozen different types of devices.
So I founded MarineIOT in 2019 and soon became BlueOceanIOT with a registered trademark. The pictured boat became to small to do development, so we got an office to assemble boards, test, 3D print, etc. Then developed NMEA2000 gateway desktop software. Eventually ended up with data in the Azure cloud and started applying advanced Microsoft technologies to do BI and AI.
